Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries-Wolong, Mt Siguniang, and Jiajin Mountains were inscribed as a World Natural Heritage site in 2006.
The sanctuaries consist of 7 natural reserves and 9 scenic parks located within Sichuan Province. Home to over 30%of the world's wild giant pandas, this botanically rich site is the largest and most complete habitat for giant pandas globally. Additionally, it is home to other endangered species such as the red panda, snow leopard, and clouded leopard, making it a“living museum"of biodiversity.
The comprehensive protection at the Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries aims to address habitat fragmentation and isolation, connecting different habitats to expand the giant panda's range and facilitate population exchange. This effort is crucial for the successful conservation and eventual reintroduction of giant pandas into the wild in the future.
