Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area was inscribed as a World Natural Heritage site in 1992.
Wulingyuan is located in the northwest of Hunan Province and consists of the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Suoxi Valley Nature Reserve, Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve, and the newly added Yangjiajie Scenic Area. It is renowned for its stunning natural landscapes, including remarkable peaks, peculiar rocks, deep valleys, serene waters, and impressive karst caves. The area features 5, 000 unique sandstone columns and peaks rising amidst deep gorges, along with 800 meandering streams flowing through stone forests and canyons.
With a forest coverage rate of 85%, Wulingyuan is dubbed a natural labyrinth, a geological museum, a forest kingdom, a botanical garden, and a wildlife paradise. Its exceptional ecological environment makes it a site of immense scientific importance.
