The Jiuzhaigou Valley Scenic and Historic Interest Area was inscribed as a World Natural Heritage site in 1992.
Located in the northern part of Sichuan Province, the Jiuzhaigou Valley is situated in the southern section of the Minshan Mountains. It is a major tributary of the Baishui River, which flows into the upper reaches of the Jialing River, part of the Yangtze River system. The valley runs from south to north, featuring deep gorges and significant elevation differences. The property comprises four main scenic areas:Shuzheng Valley, Zechawa Valley, Rize Valley, and Zharu Valley, each containing numerous smaller scenic spots. The area spans a total of 65, 074. 7ha and is renowned for its alpine karst formations, including calcified lakes, waterfalls, and limestone terraces.
The Jiuzhaigou Valley is a prime example of a natural ecosystem, serving as a core area for biodiversity conservation in China. Its diverse geological features also hold significant scientific research value.
