The Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area was inscribed as a World Natural Heritage site in 1992.
Located in the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province, the property covers an area of 700 square kilometers. The region is renowned for its vast and intricate tufa landscape, which is both magnificent in scale and vivid in color. It is known worldwide for its rare karst formations, sometimes referred to as the"fairyland on earth"and is the only well-preserved high-altitude wetland in China.
Huanglong is famous for its"Four Wonders":the colorful pools, snow-capped mountains, deep valleys, and dense forests. When combined with the area's limestone shoals, ancient temples, and unique cultural traditions, they are collectively referred to as the"Seven Wonders".
As a crucial ecological barrier and water conservation area in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, Huanglong plays a vital role in protecting the ecological environment of the Yangtze and ensuring national ecological security. Moreover, it serves as an excellent showcase of the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the upper Yangtze region.
